South Indians and coffee go hand in hand . Our day starts with cuppa filter coffee in one hand and the newspaper in another .
likewise,Coconut Burfi aka Thengai Burfi / Kobri Mittai is also a very famous sweet and a Must Have in most functions/ festivals like Marriages,Diwali,Gokulashtami etc.
Having said that cofffee and coconut burfi are kind of life lines for a south indians,I tried to give a twist to one life line by flavoring it with another life line..yes you got it right !!!
Adding coffee decoction to the traditional coconut burfi

Ingredients
Fresh grated coconut SugarInstant coffee crystals mixed in warm water .
Note : 1) for 1 cup coconut use 3/4 cup sugar or 1 cup sugar if u like it extra sweet .2) coffee powder can be adjusted depending on how much bitterness you like .3) for medium sized coconut I have used 2 teaspoon coffee powder
Method
1. In a Kadai/ deep pan add coconut and sugar and mix well.2.keep on medium flame and keep stirring till the sugar melts and mixes well with the coconut.3. Add the coffee syrup and mix it well.4. Cook on medium flame with occasional stirring to prevent burning of sugar .5. The mixture begins to froth slowly and starts to leave the sides of the pan.6. Turn the flame to low and cook for 1 to 2 mins and then turn off.7. Transfer the mixture to a greased plate and level it nicely.8. Mark desired shape when it is warm.9. On cooling, carefully remove the pieces and store in an airtight container.
