Avarekaalu Akki Roti - karnataka special - Video recipe

It is Avarekaalu Time in karnataka !! 

Avarekaalu is known as 
Mochhai in Tamil, 
Hyacinth Bean in English ,
Vaal papdi Hindi/Marathi , 
Surti papdi / lilva in gujarati.

The most sought after bean in this season and it makes its way into many many recipes like upma,sambar,rasam,pallya,kootu and the most famous Akki rotti commonly known as Avarekaalu Akki Roti .

The video illustrates how to make cruncy and tasty avarekaalu rotti at the comfort of your home..

Preparation Time : 15-20 mins
Cooking Time : 20-30 mins
Complexity : medium high


Ingredients                                        
100gms rice flour 50gms boiled hyacinth beans/avarekaalu/mochai fresh corriander + curry leaves finely chopped 2 tsp jeera 2-3 green chillies finley chopped pinch of asafoetida salt
Method
  • In a mixing bowl,add the coconut,corriander,jeera,curryleaves,chillies,salt and asafoetida and mix well with your fingers.
  • add the boiled avarekaalu and lightly mash it with fingers and mix it well.
  • add the rice flour and form a soft and smooth dough using water.
  • grease an iron tawa with oil and pat a medium sized roti on it using your palms.
  • you can wet your palm with water for easy patting.
  • cook covered on medium flame until the underside gets cooked,flip over and cook the other side as well.
  • serve hot with chutney,jaggery or plain ghee.
