Paneer Tikka

Share with friends and family

I always have had a liking for the smoked feel of veggies while eating, and have loved eating paneer tikkas and veggie tikkas on skewers in restaurants. My hubby also loves to have them.
Though I wanted to try it at home,I always used to hold myself back for the fear of going wrong and ending up in a bad taste. This time,I made up my mind and gave it a try yesterday. For the first time,it did come out well.I shall now make it frequently with variations and keep posting.
I thought I shouldn't be writing ,but could not resist .

Preparation Time : 45 mins
Cooking time : 30 mins
Serves : 2-3

Paneer Tikka

Ingredients

4-5 tbsp hung curd
10-12 paneer cubes
1 capsicum /green pepper cut into cubes
1 onion cut into cubes
1 tomato cut into cubes
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp chat masala
salt
pinch of turmeric
pinch of sugar

Method

  • Prepare the hung curd,by tying about a cup of curd in a muslin cloth for about 30 mins.
  • Drain the water from the curd completely and beat well.
  • Add the garam masala, salt, chilli powder, turmeric, chat masala, salt, sugar and mix well.
  • Marinate the paneer cubes, till the curd coats the paneer completely.
  • With the remaining curd left over, you can marinate all the vegetables too.
  • Refrigerate the paneer and vegetables for about half an hour.
  • Arrange the paneer and vegetables on the skewers.
  • Preheat the oven to 250 degrees.
  • Place the skewers on the rack in the oven and occasionally rotate the skewers to ensure the veggies and paneer get cooked equally on all sides.
  • Once done, take it off the skewers, spread lime juice and sprinkle some chat masala over and serve hot.
  • You can serve with mint chutney or tomato sauce too.
Note :
  • If red, yellow capsicum/bell peppers are available, you can use them as well. Tikkas will be colorful.
  • Stove top method : heat a non stick tava/griddle and arrange the skewers over the tava and let it cook slowly.Keep turning the skewers at intervals for equal cooking.
  • If skewers are not available, you can drizzle a little oil on the non stick tava and place the paneer cubes and veggies on the tava and cook evenly.
  • When using wooden skewers, before arranging the veggies, dip them in water . This wil  prevent the skewers from turning black.
